Lullabies for the Land

18 harp arrangements

In July 2024, Eleanor realised that she needed to do something to cope with the grief and frustration that she was experiencing over the devastating genocide by Israel of the Palestinian people, in particular the horrific pain endured by innocent children. She teamed up with artist and designer Dima Nowarah and together they created Lullabies for the Land, a book of 18 easy and intermediate harp arrangements that celebrate culture, diversity and stand against the cultural erasure that indigenous people experience all around the globe.

The book was funded by a short but extremely well supported Crowdfunder, that enabled a fantastic 400 copies of the 54 page book to be produced, to a very high level, in Norfolk at Swallowtail Print. It was really important to Dima and Eleanor that the book looked and felt really special, so as to become a cherished work of art for a lifetime, for those who had helped to fund the project as well as new supporters.

The Collaboration with Dima

DIma and Eleanor are both nursing mothers with young children, united in their empathy for mothers birthing and nurturing young children in dire circumstances inflicted upon them. This mutual sadness and desire to do something positive to honour these women led to many powerful late night sessions where the two artists would join forces even throughout the night, between feeds, talking and encouraging one another whilst working on the arrangements for the book, keeping track on the Crowdfunder and maintaining momentum through dark days of worrying and despair. Dima encouraged Eleanor and praised her notation efforts and likewise Eleanor was spurred on by the beautiful images that Dima was sharing with her, for the cover and inside pages. The two artists were really collaborating at every turn and offering each other comfort and encouragement.
